Gordon Greenberg

Greenberg wurde in Texas geboren und ist in New York aufgewachsen. Er trat mit 13 Jahren in seiner ersten Broadway-Show auf. Er besuchte die Stanford University, die Royal Academy of Dramatic Art und die NYU Film School.
Er inszeniert u.a. am Broadway, Off-Broadway und im Londoner West End, schreibt für Fernsehen und Bühne und entwickelt und produziert neue Stücke für Kunstinstitutionen in ganz Amerika. Zu seinen letzten Regie- und Schreibprojekten gehören „The Baker’s Wife“ mit der Classic Stage Company in New York und der Oscar-Gewinnerin Ariana DeBose in der Hauptrolle. Das Stück wurde von der New York Times als „großartig umgesetzte Produktion“ bezeichnet, von Time Out als „durch und durch bezaubernd“ und vom New York Theatre Guide als „beste Produktion eines Musicals des Jahres“ gelobt. Es wurde in die Menier Chocolate Factory transferiert, wo es von The Stage als „Triumph...ein Meisterkurs im Musicaltheater“ gefeiert wurde und von den London Times als „unbestreitbar verführerisch, in einem provenzalischen Glanz gehüllt“ beschrieben wurde.

Seine Produktion von „The Heart of Rock and Roll“ am Broadway wurde vom New York Magazine als „die lustigste neue Musicalproduktion der Saison“ bezeichnet und von der New York Post als „eine herausragende Komödie“ gefeiert. Sein erfolgreiches Off-Broadway-Stück „Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors“ (in Zusammenarbeit mit Steve Rosen geschrieben) feierte als „ausgelassene Party“ eine raffinierte, viel gelobte Aufführung.

Greenbergs Inszenierung von „Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf“ mit Calista Flockhart und Zachary Quinto am Geffen Playhouse gewann den Los Angeles Drama Critics Award für die beste Neuauflage, die die L.A. Times als „unfehlbar gut“ bezeichnete und Entertainment Weekly als „eine packende Produktion… brillant inszeniert von Gordon Greenberg“. Er führte Regie (und fungierte als Co-Autor) der Broadway-Bühnenadaption von Irving Berlins „Holiday Inn“ im Studio 54 für Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Roundabout und PBS Television’s Great Performances.

Seine West-End-Neuauflage von „Guys and Dolls“ (mit Rebel Wilson in der Hauptrolle). wurde für sechs Olivier Awards nominiert. The New York Times’ Ben Brantley nannte sie einen „reinen, ungezwungenen Genuss... eine trinkfreudige, unverschämte Party“.

Er kreierte die NBC-Fernsehserie „Most Talkative“ (Co-Executive Producer/Autor) für NBC, Blumhouse und Andy Cohen. Zu seinen aktuellen Projekten gehören u.a. Co-Writing/Regie von „A Comedy of Biblical Proportions“, „Crime and Punishment“, „A Comedy für The Old Globe“, eine neue Adaption des Thrillers „Rope“, „Single White Female“ (A.T.G. London), „Seven Shakespeares“ (Tokyo Broadcast System), „The Wedding Banquet“ (Ang Lee, Hua Musicals) und „Ghost Tour, The Play“.

Weitere Arbeiten umfassen die nordamerikanische Premiere von „Piaf/Dietrich“ für Mirvish in Toronto (Dora Award, Beste Produktion), „The Secret Party: Jacques Brel 1968“ (Das Vindobona, Wien, Österreich), die Überarbeitung von „Working“ (Drama Desk Award, adaptiert mit Stephen Schwartz und Lin-Manuel Miranda), Jacques Brel… (Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Award Nominierungen), die Bühnenadaptierung von „Tangled“ (Disney), „Johnny Baseball“ (Williamstown), „Floyd Collins“ (Signature), die Klezmer-Rock-Neuinterpretation von Isaac Bashevis Singers „Yentl“ (Asolo Rep).

In Reichenau übernimmt er die Regie von "Vierundzwanzig Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau". Gemeinsam mit Thomas Kahry zeichet er auch für die Dramatisierung des Werks für Reichenau verantwortlich.
